Tasmanian Bush Track

The track curves gently through the trees, the earth soft and lightly worn beneath a canopy of layered green. Cool air settles low beneath the foliage, carrying the scent of damp soil and leaf litter. Light filters down in shifting fragments, catching on smooth bark and falling across the path in quiet bands of shadow. Pale trunks rise slender and close, their surfaces peeling softly against darker undergrowth. A hush holds the space, broken only by the faint rustle of leaves and the muted sound of wind moving through branches.

Tasmanian bushland is shaped by temperate climate and dense forest growth, where filtered light and moisture create sheltered walking tracks like this one. The enclosing greenery and softened ground give these paths a distinct sense of calm, drawing attention inward to the texture, scent and stillness of the landscape.

A recent commission inspired by a bush track walked during a holiday in Tasmania.

It began with a photo and a story about how peaceful and beautiful the place felt. I spent time studying the light, strengthening the colours and simplifying the composition to bring that feeling forward.

It’s always special painting somewhere that holds meaning, and this one already has its place waiting on the wall.
