Ruins in the Goldfields

$220.00

Heat settles over open ground, the air dry beneath a wide and restless sky. An old brick structure stands alone against the horizon, its chimney rising from crumbling walls marked by time and weather. Sunlight strikes faded mortar and exposed brick, drawing out warm reds against the muted gold of the earth.

Broken fragments lie scattered in the dust, reminders of purpose long past. Beyond the ruin, dry grass shifts lightly in the wind, carrying the scent of iron rich soil and sun baked timber. Shadows sit deep within the darkened openings, holding the quiet weight of abandonment.

Across the Western Australian goldfields, structures like this once supported remote mining communities during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Many now stand isolated, shaped by heat, wind, and decades of silence, their stories absorbed back into the land.

This artwork is executed in gouache on loose canvas and is supplied unstretched and unframed. As this is a smaller work, stretching over wooden stretcher bars is possible but not recommended due to the limited blank edge allowance and potential image loss. For display, it may be mounted onto a rigid acid free board for a flat, contemporary finish, or presented within a floater frame for a subtle floating effect.

Gouache on loose canvas 297mm × 227mm
